Center of Excellence

Welding & Joining Technology Center

The HEMG Welding & Joining Technology Center provides the most comprehensive niche welding training available in the industrial sector — covering every process, every material, and every joining technology relevant to pressure equipment, piping, and structural applications. Every module is delivered by Subject Matter Experts with active field experience and assessed against code-aligned practical standards.

Manual Welding Processes

  • • GTAW — Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG): root pass, fill, cap; orbital and manual; all positions; specialty applications on exotic materials
  • • SMAW — Shielded Metal Arc (Stick / MMA): heavy wall piping, structural, repair welding; electrode selection and handling

Semi-Automatic Welding Processes

  • • FCAW — Flux-Cored Arc Welding: high deposition, structural and piping applications; all-position variants
  • • GMAW — MIG/MAG including Pulse variants: thin to thick section; solid wire, metal cored; short-circuit, spray, and pulse transfer

Automatic & Specialist Processes

  • • Orbital Welding — tube-to-tube and tube-to-fittings; pharmaceutical, nuclear, and high purity piping
  • • Laser Welding — precision joining for thin-section and dissimilar material applications
  • • Plasma Welding — keyhole welding for stainless and alloy materials
  • • SAW — Submerged Arc Welding: heavy wall vessels, structural, and high-production piping

Materials Covered

  • • Carbon Steel — P1 group, all common grades; preheat requirements; PWHT procedures
  • • Stainless Steel — 304, 316, 310, 347; ferrite control; SS321/ER347 low ferrite investigation procedures
  • • Duplex & Super-Duplex — 2205, 2507; ferrite verification; intermetallic phase avoidance
  • • Alloy Steels — P11, P22, P5, P9, P91; preheat, interpass control, PWHT; P91 failure modes and prevention
  • • Nickel Alloys — Inconel 625/825, Hastelloy C276/C22; dilution control; overlay welding
  • • Exotic Grades — KHR35AF, ECHP16Nb, ECHN10NiNb: specialist qualification and procedure development

Non-Metallic & Specialist Joining

  • • Copper Brazing — torch and furnace brazing; refrigeration and hydraulic system applications
  • • HDPE Butt Fusion — pipe joining procedures; fusion parameter control; inspection and testing
  • • GRE/GRP — Glass Reinforced Epoxy/Plastic: wrapping and bonding procedures; offshore and chemical plant applications

Every Module Includes:

  • • Procedure theory and code-aligned background
  • • Practical demonstration by active field SME
  • • Defect recognition, prevention, and repair methodology
  • • Code-aligned assessment — ASME, ISO, AWS, EN
  • • HEMG digital certification on successful completion
  • • CPD hours assigned per module

Certification Impact

Real-world feedback on HEMG Skill-Up Academy™ training programs.

"The HEMG Skill-Up Academy is unlike any industrial training programme we have used. The courses are built from real execution data — our technicians recognised the scenarios immediately because they were drawn from actual field failures. Certification completion rates reached 94% — the highest we have ever recorded for any technical programme."
